About Me

“I discovered Kelly once again reading a library book during math class.”
–Note to my parents from my 4th grade teacher

The particular arrangement of words has been my interest and specialty since childhood. I learned to write by being a devoted reader of classic literature. My mother built a vast library in our home from used paperbacks and mail-order classics. I can imagine no better upbringing than the one I spent curled up in the shade of our weeping willow tree, steeped in the tales of King Arthur and his knights and the novels of Louisa May Alcott.

I believe in doing good work for those who do good works. That’s why I’ve been drawn to nonprofits, public service and military service. It’s also why I enjoy my associations with individuals and corporations dedicated to a strong service culture or mission. My belief that personal actions and choices help create “tipping points” that effect broad positive change is a main reason I contributed commentary to The Indianapolis Star from 2001 to 2009.
